Great America II

Our First Victory

Les than a mile from where this wall stands is the site of Battle of Great Bridge. History books never seem to remember that before the battles of Lexington and Concord near Boston, MA, the very first victory of the revolutionary forces was won in Chesapeake, Virginia. There were no uniforms and very little organization within the ranks, but until that moment, the British military was considered all but invincible and to challenge them, truly revolutionary.

The Challenge

The process of getting approval began almost a year before the day of dedication. Ironically, it turned out that once everything was settled, we only had a week to paint the wall before the ceremony of completion was scheduled. With our the help of more people than we can remember and several all-night painting sessions, we are not sure that we would have finished on time.
